Overnight postpartum care is to allow the family to gain more rest than they would without support. This may mean that the doula takes upon much of the newborn care, perhaps waking a parent for the feeding but often allowing them to return to sleep while the doula finishes burping, changing and putting the baby back to sleep. It is important to me to also preserve the circadian rhythm in the home by maintaining a dark or low light environment, quiet activities and rest. Some of this service may include upon agreement:
- support and assistance with breastfeeding or bottle-feeding
- swaddling and soothing
- extensive baby care to allow mom to sleep
- baby dishes (pump parts, bottles)
- keeping up feeding and diaper logs
- recognizing postpartum mood disorders and supporting through resources and referrals
- lending library
